Does... that mean we're friends again? [ that was actually a serious question. ]

I... kind of feel like we're past that point, now.

[ blink. ] What do you mean by that?

Again, you're naked in my bed half an hour after touching souls with me.

...That, and we kind of just kissed.

I didn't want to assume that automatically made us friends again, Vera.

Just because you piss me off doesn't mean we aren't friends.

[She crosses her arms, turning onto her back to look up at the ceiling.]

If I kicked every person that annoyed me out of my life I wouldn't have a company anymore.

[burndownforwhat]

That's fair, but... it still doesn't answer my question. [ said with a frown. ] I don't think I've ever actually heard you call me your friend. Maybe it's not a big deal to you, but it's... something I'd like to hear. If it's true. [ look Jen has been thinking over all her relationships in deep detail lately and given how hazy her recollection is of how she even got to know Vera in the first place, plus the whole mystery with Weiss and Yang. she wouldn't be so firm if it wasn't a deep concern of hers. ]

Of course you're my friend. You might be my best friend.

[She closes her eyes with a sigh.] Clearly I'm not very good at showing that.

[burndownforwhat]

[ that's going to have to do. even though that's... kind of sad to think about? talk about a low bar, Vera. ] ... maybe that means you need more friends. To practice showing it to them, too. But for what it's worth. Thank you.

...You know I'm not good with people, Jen. Besides, too many people know who I am. It's not like I people can have a genuine first impression of me.

[burndownforwhat]

Well... I can't exactly give you advice on that front. [ Jen sighed. ] Most of my reputation I left back in Seattle, but yours is global. I'm sure there's going to be people who don't care about the Vera they read about and would rather get to know the real you.

Just like there are people who pretend to be interested in the real me so that I will buy them things and introduce them to influential people.

[burndownforwhat]

Life's full of risks like that. [ Jen rolls over onto her back, staring up at the ceiling. ] I'm going to probably have to deal with that eventually... Not on the same scale, obviously. But I plan to make a name for myself.

[heiroglyphs]

It's a risk I never want to take again. I've been used enough in my life.

[She scoots over, once again touching shoulders with the taller girl.]

...But I think you have what it takes to make it in this world.

[ Jen doesn't want to bring up Vic again. she doesn't believe that woman had a single mean-spirited bone in her body, and saw Vera for who she was. Jen could count herself as someone who has considered taking advantage of her connections, so even she can't count herself on that level no matter how important it may be to say so right now. as for anyone else? Jen has no idea, but she can't think everyone was like that or she'd just have to admit that Vera was setting herself up to live her life forever alone...

Vera's touch brings her out of her thoughts. she closes her eyes with a small sigh. ] Mm, thanks. I sure hope so.

[She hates thinking about Victoria, because as much as she wants to blame her for running off, she can't help but know that Jen is right. She was a sweet, loving, pure woman who loved her unconditionally. But it only hurts her more to think about how she'll probably never experience that again, so she'll hide in her shell, cursing the woman over something she couldn't control.]

Hey... Jen? [She turns on her side, forcing her eyes open once more.] What do you think Weiss and Yang thought of each other?

Hmm. I wish I could be sure about it. There are just- well. Let's just say I don't remember the first time they met going too well. [ a scoff. ] Though I think we've proven that first impressions don't always hold up. [ Jen took a deep breath and sighed. ] I wish I could piece together some kind of like, timeline. Obviously something big had to happen along the way for both of them. Probably all of them on that team. Team RWBY.

[heiroglyphs]

Big... yeah. [She exhales slowly. Odd feelings and images of their other lives continue to flash in front of the smaller girl's eyes. It hurts to think right now, could all of this soul nonsense have really taken that much out of her?] I'm... sure it was something. But it seems like they all at least care about each other.

[burndownforwhat]

[ at that, she smiled, speaking with confidence. ] They do. A lot. There's no doubt in my mind.

[heiroglyphs]

[It's nice to think about, that even in another life, the two of them cared for each other. Inching closer, she turns to face her, looking up at her face expectingly.]

[burndownforwhat]

And? [ Jen turned her head to look at Vera. ]

[burndownforwhat]

Well, yeah! We're friends, right? Maybe not, like, the closest but... there's room on my calendar to work on that, if there's room in yours. [ today was a good step toward that, if nothing else. though on a more serious note: ] I can't promise I'll be around forever, but while I'm here... I've got you covered.

I could... reschedule a few things here and there. Maybe... block off an evening or two.

[It would probably lead to some people being upset with her, but she'll deal with it. She's the boss, what are they going to do?]
