[Vera will just turn in towards Kara's chest to hide the fact that she's squeezing her eyes shut.]

Just... make it quick.

[Kara pulls her close, smiling down at Vera before flitting out the window. Cape fluttering, she silently makes her way downtown, rubbing Vera's shoulder the whole way to keep her calm.

When they land, she slowly lowers her down, swirling the cape to set it as a blanket. They are on the roof of one of the nicest hotels in town, sitting in a private garden that seems locked off.]

You can look now.

[Vera does her best to focus on something-- anything other than the fact that she's so high up in the air, and settles on the sound of Kara's cape flapping in the wind. It takes some moments after the blonde tells her she can look before she dares to try, before gazing up at her with a befuddled look.]

...I know this place, I stayed at this hotel once before.

[argone]

I figured.

[Kara says, rather dryly, before taking a seat on the blanket next to the shorter girl. She doesn't at all hide her interest, giving an appraising look up and down Vera's legs before settling an arm around her shoulders. Still gentle, careful not to apply too much pressure, she breathes in the night air and looks out at the glimmering cityscape.]

Did you know this garden was here? I didn't, until I happened to fly over.

Funny what we miss down below, isn't it?

I saw it once, but this is the first time I've ever sat in it.

[She exhales slowly when Kara's arm wraps around her. Was she really going to flirt with her right now?]

It does not change the skyline from being beautiful. I would enjoy this city if it were not so strange.

[Why of course she's going to flirt. She hasn't been given a firm no. And she's looking for, well, it's pretty obvious.

Leaning over so her head bumps Vera's, she flashes a quick grin and runs her hand up and down the other's arm.]

Is it really that bad? All these nice sights, the people, the chance to see what other people don't?

Everything's got a price. And if some weird science is the price I have to pay for moments like this, I'm all for it. The superpowers are just a bonus.

I am having a hard time believing everything we have been through is worth some nice scenery. I would happily put this city behind me if I could.

[Her hands ball into fists, but she doesn't pull away.]

I do not have much free time and I would rather be calm when I am in it.

[argone]

You would? And leave me here, huh?

[Kara inhales and slips her hand down the rest of the way to cover one of Vera's fists, focusing on calming thoughts.]

I'm just teasing you, Vera. I do think it's worth it for the people, but I'm not you. You're under a lot more stress than I am, at least. Sorry, for...not making that easier the way I used to.

[Pausing, she turns, looking at the heiress.]

Really, I like working for you, with you. But I can't, not that way.

[The details of their relationship are fuzzy at the moment but Vera is fairly certain Kara once "made things easier" for her by breaking some dude's leg. Ah, the memories.]

You've done a lot for me in the past, and thankfully I have not had need of an enforcer for some time.

You know I am not sentimental, but you are always welcome to return. In what capacity, I don't know, but we can find something.

Good. Because having power like I have...it's not right to abuse it.

[This is the important part of the conversation. The thing she needed to say.]

I can't, and won't...do that. [And just like that, she's back to playful, leaning close to Vera's ear.]

But I can think of a few other things I can do for you.

[She wanted to go into some statement about the meaning of power and when it needs to be used, but at the moment there's a blonde bombshell whispering in her ear. The shorter girl visibly stiffens, leaning away somewhat.]

I am engaged to be married, you know I cannot be conducting myself as this.

[argone]

[Kara purrs a little, leaning further so Vera's not getting away too far. She brushes her nose up against Vera's earlobe, trying to be affectionate.]

Except...I know you. I know what you like, and I'm pretty sure girls are more your thing.

[If she remembers right, she's certain Vera's more interested in women, and that boy was just for appearance's sake.]

And I do know a few new tricks to make you relax.

[Vera is flushed, exhaling sharply as Kara's nose rubs against her. She squeezes her eyes shut, trying to maintain herself.]

Y-you can appreciate pretty women without having a thing for girls. I have had experiments in the past so I know I am straight.

[argone]

[Kara hums, catching Vera's earlobe between her lips, sucking on it very, very gently.]

You're lying. I know better than that.

[In fact, she can hear the lie in Vera's heartbeat, the quickening of it momentarily.]

You never have been good at keeping that side of yourself hidden from me.

...Der Teufel ist blond. [She whispers under ragged breath.]

You will... never tell anyone of this.

[argone]

Natürlich...

[Kara remembers enough high school German to understand that phrase and respond.]

Why would I do that? [Still sucking on the lobe...] I'm not the kind to kiss and tell. Are you?

This... "side of me", as you said. It is not who I am, people would get the wrong idea.

[Her heart is trying to beat a hole through her chest.]

You have a public face, just like me.

[Snuggling closer, certain she's got what she wanted (and not just because she wants to give a fuck you to Dante), Kara's lips press to Vera's jawline.]

In public you have to be cold, hard, straight as an arrow. But in private...

[She laughs softly.]

You're not that different from me. Just someone lonely, looking for attention.

[Finally relenting, Vera allows herself to curl into Kara's embrace, keeping her eyes shut as she leans into the taller blonde.]

I have too much attention as it is. What I need is less spotlight, not more.

[argone]

Then that's why I won't say a word.

[Kara moves, pushing Vera back down onto the thick fabric of her cape, dropping to her side and leaning over her. Running a hand down her cheek, she smiles a rather genuine smile.]

People don't need to see my softer side either. Hanging with you in public would wreck my credibility.

[heiroglyphs]

[Vera lets out a small grunt as her back touches the ground, not entirely prepared for what was about to happen. Propping herself up with one hand, she turns onto her side and squirms her way closer to Kara.]

I did not know you had credibility to begin with.

[argone]

I do. Just not with the same people you have credibility with.

[Her hand slides down Vera's neck, fingers trailing along her jaw, down her collar, tracing the buttons of her shirt until they reach her belly. Splaying them, she hums.]

Want to see how my credentials hold up?

[Without waiting for an answer, her mouth darts forward to capture Vera's in a deeply passionate kiss. Hard, demanding and somewhat ferocious. Just like Kara herself.]

[Kara's fingers send shivers down the shorter girl's spine, eyes closing while they drag across her jaw. She could get used to this, relaxing in a peaceful place, spending time with cute girls, getting stroked and held. What's not to like?]

What do y--

[And then Kara bowls her over with a kiss, overwhelming her with a level of enthusiasm that she just wasn't prepared for. One hand grips Kara's shoulder, while the other palms her lower back, giving her a couple firm smacks in a vain attempt to dislodge them.]

[Kara does stop, but it's a little slower than it would be if it was anyone else. A lazy smile flicks across her lips and she licks them a little.]

Sorry. I couldn't resist. I forget how delicate you are sometimes.

[She leans in a little closer, favoring Vera with a much gentler, much quicker kiss.]

Better?

[Oh thank god, she stopped. Vera was worried for a second that her heart was going to rip its way out of her chest had that continued much longer. Just give her a second to catch her breath...]

I-I am not delicate...

[She says with a face as red as a tomato. But the second kiss draws a stronger reaction. It's soft, quick, and doesn't immediately take her breath away. The business mogul catches herself leaning into Kara's soft lips.]
